Message from our President

Good morning all,

The Coronavirus is sweeping across the world and is presenting everyone with challenges which are unprecedented for our generation. All aspects of our lives, personally, professionally & some financially are, and will be affected from this extraordinary event of our lifetime.

As a responsible club, that crosses over many of our shared communities, we need to take precautionary measures to prevent and slow the transmission of the virus. Government is informing us all with up to the minute changes and developments. All available channels of communication are being utilised so that "we" respond and can pass on the advice and guidelines not only to our Club but also to our family, friends, school mates & workplace colleagues in a mass joint effort to stem the spread of Coronavirus.

Your Old Guildfordians Mundaring Hockey Club is taking guidance from our direct governing bodies, HWA & HA, along with measures in line with our State and National Departments of Health. We, the club, are in conversations with all our partners including Guildford Grammar School, City of Swan, Midland-Guildford Cricket Club, Sponsors & most importantly you our Members.

This is an extremely challenging time for the global community, for businesses, our local communities and each other.  We all listen and watch the news. We know of some unfortunate experiences already involving hysteria in certain places never seen before in this country. For a few, these events can be unsettling and I urge you that this is the time to look out for each other and with that our club also needs to play its part.

Our winter hockey season which was due to commence with the Premier 1 Men's on Saturday the 28th of March has been postponed. Further to that action the HWA domestic Senior & Junior competition program has also been suspended. A date for recommencement has been "pencilled in" for June. From here the club will be looking towards a return to normal routine asap. As new restrictions are advised we will make changes to our programs accordingly. The committee agreed unanimously that the club will approach the situation as information becomes available, from hour to hour, on a day by day, week to week and hopefully month by month improving outcome. It's business as usual in the best way we can. Team nominations have been submitted, subscriptions are due and some already paid, gradings have been carried out and we will take possession of our recently renovated and vastly improved prestigious clubrooms on April 1.

Our Club activities may be limited or postponed as a precautionary measure. We will endeavour to provide updates as information comes to hand.

Please rest assure regardless of how the season pans out, we will continue with our strategic plans to develop junior programs, sponsorship relationships etc. so we are bigger and better for when hockey resumes to normality in the near future

In the meantime please stay up-to-date with advices issued by the Department of Health: https://ww2.health.wa.gov.au/

Thanks everyone for your understanding and stay safe.

Kind Regards

John Hutton | President |Old Guildfordians' Mundaring Hockey Club
